Capilano Part Deux – Kitchen Design & Layout

Now that the demo is complete on the Capilano Part Deux project, we can concentrate on the fun stuff! The design! And I am really looking forward to this kitchen design because I am doing even more black and white (my current design obsession it seems). Take a look at what I have planned…
Kitchen Design & LayoutTo start, I’ll use Chantilly Lace by Benjamin Moore on all the walls. I used this white paint in our basement and absolutely loved it but have yet to use it on a flip. I want to keep the majority of the cabinetry white as usual, but then have a gorgeous black island to contrast. I debated going all black but thought sticking with white would be safer for resale. The countertops will be white concrete on the outskirts and then the island will have a butcher block to bring in some warmth. I have used matte white subway tiles in the past but this time I want to grab the longer 12″ by 4″ version and potentially install them in a herringbone pattern. We will see if I win that design battle with the guys 🙂 And finally, I am really excited to bring in some more black accents, especially in the lighting fixtures. I plan to find something eye catching and unique for this kitchen like what I have above.

In terms of layout, here is the new plan:Kitchen Design & LayoutWe will lose the walls leading into the living room and replace them with the large island. It will make such a difference to have an open concept space. At the moment, the kitchen wall on the right is quite short, so we plan to extend it, take over the existing doorway into the hallway, and reroute the hallway entrance further down into the living room. It’s hard to visualize from the drawing, but I think it will work really well, while giving us more counter space in the kitchen.

And there you have it! The new kitchen design for Capilano Part Deux! I would love to hear your thoughts!! xo
  • I’m a big fan of elongated subway tile, and I’ve always had a crush on those black pendants with a pop of copper! I can’t wait to see this come together.
