Colour of the Year: Simply White

Benjamin Moore's colour of the yearToday, I must interrupt the regularly scheduled blog post in favour of an important announcement – Benjamin Moore’s Colour of the Year! 2016 has fittingly been dubbed the year of Simply White! It’s easy to understand that the design community would be a little divided on this choice – to some, white isn’t even a colour. But I’m so happy they chose this elegant, warm white. I included it in my favourite white paint post, and described Simply White as clean and bright with the right amount of softness. It does have a bit of a yellow undertone but, I’ve always said, it is generally less prominent than other white paints. It really has the perfect balance of softness and crispness. dream home designI used Simply White when designing the Beaumont Dream House and it quickly became one of my favourites. This space had a lot of natural light from the large windows but really dark cabinetry. The wall colour worked perfectly with the other elements to create a subtle harmony. I really feel that using the right white paint will bring out the other colours and textures in the room. It’s almost like working with a perfect blank canvas. Here are some other spaces that showcase this colour trend perfectly:
