Design Obsession: Cement Tile

Cement tiles seem to be everywhere these days and I ain’t complaining! Encaustic cement tiles are gorgeous, offer such a unique pattern & look and are so stylish. And so…I’m obsessed. I’ve mainly been seeing the tiles used in bathrooms, but I also love the look of a laundry room in cement tile or even a dramatic, patterned kitchen backsplash. I’ve rounded up some inspiration and my favourite black, white and grey options from the Cement Tile Shop – a leading supplier! The only problem (again) for us Canadians is the cost to ship…these babies are not inexpensive. But, don’t worry…at the end of the post I have a few other options on how to get the look without spending all your dollars. design obsession cement tile design obsession cement tiledesign obsession cement tile

I love these bathroom examples. The floor becomes a statement, almost a work of art. I would absolutely love a space like the ones above and am seriously considering the circular black and white pattern for our main bath/laundry room.design obsession cement tile

I also love the look of the patchwork design – multiple tiles laid together to create a cohesive look. This hallway becomes so much grander because of the cement tile.design obsession cement tiledesign obsession cement tile design obsession cement tileI also love the look of cement tiles as a backsplash. If the pattern is too busy, you could even limit it to just behind the range and hood fan to achieve a great focal point.

Here are some of my faves!cement tile design obsessionIf the budget doesn’t quite allow for this option but you still want the look, Home Depot carries lookalikes by Merola tile. Another option could be to paint white ceramic tiles, find a vinyl option or even use a stencil to create an interesting pattern.cement tile

Do you love cement tiles as much as I do? Which is your favourite?
  • Hi Kristina, we were wondering if you could recommend a supplier for cement tiles in Canada? So far, we’ve only been able to find product out of the US. Thanks!

    • We are in Edmonton and we work with a local company called River City Tile. They source it all for us. I know a lot of the cement tile we use comes out of Calgary though. I am positive whichever city you are near, you will find a local company that can source it. Good luck!
