Master Makeover – Tips to Refresh Your Bedroom on a Budget

It wasn’t long ago that I shared my simple bedroom refresh. Then I took some much needed r & r with friends and family, leaving the blog to take a breather too [insert a large grateful sigh]. Summers are the best, right?! Anyways, I’m back and ready to share some more master makeover secrets. As you know, I didn’t make any drastic changes in our bedroom, just some small swaps and switches to make it feel all brand spanking new! Here are some of my tips to refresh your own bedroom on a budget…

Paint Away

Obviously you get the most bang for your buck with a can (or 2) of paint. Consider painting just one wall to really save on time and cost, while still making a major statement (yay for feature walls!). Or if you’re like me and not wanting to change the wall colour just yet, you can spruce up some furniture. My DIY dresser was starting to look a little sad, so I gave it some love with a fresh coat! And it took virtually no time.Tips to Refresh Your Bedroom on a Budget, bedroom makeover, minimalist bedroom design

Add New Artwork

I think one of the biggest changes I made in our bedroom was updating all the artwork (except for 1!!). This can get really pricey if you opt for large scale, professionally framed pieces. BUT, it can also be really budget friendly if you are open to getting a little creative. I love looking on Etsy for great printable options (my gal Bre has the perfect round up here) or I sit down and have some fun myself. I did the veeerrry basic painting you see on the dresser below one night while I was watching the Bachelor 🙂 I also have some favourites I chatted about here, which are all reasonably priced (especially if you frame them yourself!).Tips to Refresh Your Bedroom on a Budget, bedroom makeover, minimalist bedroom design

Update Hardware

source Simply Grove

I know this seems small but you’d be surprised how much a tiny detail can change a space. Glam up your space with new drawer pulls, knobs or hooks! Take my Ikea dresser again…I created a whole new mid century modern look with the brass knobs I chose but I could have gone in plenty of directions depending on the style I was going for. Look at your hardware throughout your space and consider where you could use a quick update. (Pssst…maybe take a peek at some of my current faves below too!)

Look for New Lighting

source Grit and Polish

One of my very favourite purchases is this lamp, which was the only piece of lighting I changed in our refresh. But that’s also because I still loved the sconces and pendant I chose a couple of years ago. I know I’ve said it a thousand times, but lighting makes such an impact. It greatly affects the overall mood and ambiance of your bedroom space, so that’s an area you really want to spend some time and energy on. Bonus though…there are SO many affordable options now! { Jump over to this post if you want some more lighting tips!! }

If you’re like me, you switch up all your linens with the change of seasons. Or if you don’t then now may be a good time to start. A really quick bedroom makeover? Changing your accent pillow covers (insert stays the same), switching to a different throw at the end of the bed or even adding/taking away a quilt or coverlet. This season, I opted for just one long lumbar cushion, which I absolutely love (more on this to come!!).

My last tip is definitely my biggest budget saver and probably my most favourite part of any makeover. Clear every surface, whether it’s a dresser, nightstand, bench, whatever, and take stock of what you have. Do a quick shop around your house to see if any other small accessories could fit in the makeover and bring them into the space. Then play! Try restyling with a more edited and refined eye…what do you love? what needs to be on display? what works together? Create some vignettes based off your new collection of items, pack away or donate anything that’s no longer working and then get ready to feel refreshed with a newly styled space!minimalist bedroom, night stand styling, bedroom refresh, master bedroom design,

Those are my tips! Do you have any of your own?! Stay tuned for one more bedroom related post…my round up of the best extra long lumbar cushions!
